Concept Development

This design concept is grounded in the client's values of family, community and sustainability. The primary challenge was creating a home that supports young family living while remaining suitable for entertaining and long-term use. This informed a layout that balances openness with clearly defined zones, supported by rounded forms, arched details and a warm, earthy palette. Material selections prioritised durability, sustainability and longevity, ensuring the home remains both practical and visually enduring over time.

Design Development

Floor plan

The design resolved into a cohesive layout connecting the entry, dining, lounge and alfresco zones, allowing ease of movement and visual connection across the home. Spatial planning prioritised clear circulation and flexibility, supporting both everyday family use and larger gatherings. Durable, ethically sourced materials such as terrazzo, linen and recyclable brass were selected to balance refinement with practicality. Custom joinery, adaptable seating and layered lighting enhance functionality while accommodating the family's evolving lifestyle.

Materials

The material palette for this family home balances warmth, durability and sustainability. Terrazzo benchtops and natural wood finishes introduce depth and texture, while remaining practical and easy to maintain. Ethically sourced linen and recyclable brass hardware ensure the home feels warm yet refined for everyday family living, tied together with subtle dusty pink hues.

Furniture & Lighting

The selected furniture emphasises rounded forms and soft curves to create a welcoming, contemporary aesthetic. Removable, washable upholstery enhances comfort while prioritising ease of care and therefore longevity. Lighting is warm with subtle metallic accents, adding sophistication and helping to create a vibrant but relaxed atmosphere.
